IDO IDO Bar and Restaurant

Situated on Bang Bao beach, just a short walk from Rasta Chill bar. This is an awesome bar for chilling on the beach or inside their funky vibe.

Tip: Lonely beach is very difficult to find the way to the beach. If you follow Google maps for the beautiful bar, you can part here and walk along the beach, via a dirt walk way. And Beach Tango restaurant and bar as above on White Sandy Beach.

Food Delights of Koh Chang

The culinary scene on Koh Chang is a tantalizing mix of traditional Thai flavors, fresh seafood, and international cuisines, all served in scenic settings.

Seafood: Being an island, Koh Chang’s eateries pride themselves on fresh seafood. Popular dishes include grilled prawns, garlic crab, fish steamed with lime and chili, and spicy squid salad. Many beachfront restaurants serve freshly caught fish prepared in various styles, often accompanied by sticky rice and spicy dipping sauces.
Thai Classics: You can indulge in regional favorites such as Pad Thai, Som Tum (green papaya salad), Guay Teow (Thai noodle soup), and Massaman Curry. Local markets and street stalls provide authentic, budget-friendly options.

International Cuisine: Opt for Italian, Indian, or Middle Eastern food at resorts and restaurants catering to international tourists. You’ll find pizza, pasta, spicy curries, and sumptuous falafel alongside Thai dishes.
Street Food & Markets: For a truly local experience, night markets in White Sand Beach and Chai Chet serve skewered meats, grilled seafood, fresh fruit, sweets, and spicy salads. Don’t miss the chance to try Thai-style grilled chicken, mango sticky rice, and fresh coconut ice cream.

Tip: A must visit when on the Koh Chang is Salak Phet Restaurant and bar on the East Coast of the Island. Its at the very end of the Island which is the less touristy, more local part of Koh Chang.

It includes a hotel and a boat marina; the setting is simply wonderful.

We had lunch here, of which was the best seafood I think I’ve had in the 16 years of living in Thailand. All the dishes where so fresh, delicious and prepared do beautify on our plate.

Accomodation recommended

On Klong Kloi Beach for a more peaceful stay The Tropical Beach Resort. Stay on a beautiful beach hut, located on the sand surrounded by nature.

On Klong Prao beach the Vayna Boutique Resort , a very comfortable resort, beautiful location and a fabulous breakfast included.

Kai Bae Village

Although we did not stay in Kai Bae, I however found it to be a lovely little village with so much on offer. From beautiful inlays, Klongs (Canals), a small village with a mix of shops and restaurants. A small but sufficient beach to laze away.

Within a short period, I encounter two elephants walking through the village, this was somewhat surreal.

The Kai Bae Beach Resort has situated perfectly on the beach and only a short walk to the village.

Getting Around Koh Chang: Local Transport and Hiring

Exploring Koh Chang is straightforward thanks to various transportation options.
Local Transport: The most common forms of local transportation are motorbike taxis, songthaews (shared pickup trucks), and tuk-tuks. These are inexpensive and convenient for short distances. Motorbike taxis are available at most beaches and busy areas; always confirm the fare before starting your journey.

The shared pick-up Taxis state from 50 THB from beach to beach. They can also be hired for 5 hours max 10 people for 2,000 THB for sightseeing.

Hired Transport: For a more flexible, comfortable experience, renting a motorbike or scooter is popular among tourists. It allows access to remote beaches and jungle trails and is very budget-friendly. Make sure to have an international driving permit and wear a helmet.
Car Rentals: For families or travelers wanting more comfort, renting a small car is advisable. Several rental agencies operate on the island, offering automatic and manual vehicles at reasonable rates.
Taxis & Private Drivers: For longer journeys around the island or day trips, hiring a private driver or taxi is a convenient option. Many resorts can arrange this, providing a comfortable and informative way to explore Koh Chang.

The Best Beaches of Koh Chang

Koh Chang boasts over 30 beaches, each offering unique experiences.
White Sand Beach: The most popular and bustling beach, White Sand holds a vibrant nightlife, excellent restaurants, and resorts. The long stretch of soft white sand and clear waters make it perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and beach activities.

White Sand Beach was my favorite beach, not only for its beauty, for its style of beach bars & restaurants.

Highly recommend Beach Tango Restaurant & Bar. The seafood dishes are delicious and fresh. The menu for both food and drinks are excellent.

Klong Prao Beach: Known for its wide expanse and calm waters, Klong Prao offers a relaxed atmosphere with beachfront resorts and jungle scenery. It’s ideal for long walks and family-friendly activities.

Klong Prao beach is a confusing beach because it is divided by three klongs (canals ) which at high tide its not possible to walk straight therefore you must enter via the main road.
Making it even more confusing each part has been given another name, one for example is Ana Beach. Which you enter over the mangrove via a bridge, which in fact is very cool.

Klong Kloi Beach – For sunrise lovers this is where to be. A beautiful peaceful beach, with plenty of bars and restaurants to explore.

Tip: I recommend only a short stay, if you’re seeking a much more active and busier area.

Bang Bao Pier, located on Koh Chang in Thailand, is a charming fishing village and a popular tourist hub. Built on stilts over the water, the pier offers a picturesque view of the Andaman Sea and serves as a gateway to various island activities. Visitors can enjoy walking along the wooden walkways, exploring souvenir shops, seafood restaurants, and markets selling fresh produce and local crafts. The vibrant atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for relaxation and sightseeing.

Bang Bao Pier is also the starting point for numerous tours and excursions. Tourists can embark on island-hopping trips to nearby islands like Koh Wai, Koh Kao, and Koh Mak, which boast pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. Diving tours are widely available, catering to both beginners and experienced divers. These tours offer opportunities to explore vibrant coral reefs, underwater rock formations, and abundant marine life, including tropical fish, rays, and sometimes larger species like sharks. Equipment rentals and diving courses are offered at various dive shops near the pier.
