The ideal time to visit Koh Chang is during the dry season, from November to April. During these months, the weather is warm and sunny, perfect for beach activities, diving, and exploring the island. December and January are especially popular due to their pleasant temperatures and festive atmosphere.

The monsoon season, from May to October, brings heavy rains and rough seas, which can hinder outdoor activities. However, this period also offers lush greenery and fewer tourists, making it a suitable option for those seeking solitude and a more budget-friendly experience.

Getting to Koh Chang from Bangkok

Travelling from Bangkok to Koh Chang involves a few options:

  • By Bus and Ferry:
    The most economical way is to take a bus from Bangkok’s Eastern Bus Terminal (Ekkamai or Mo Chit). Buses run frequently to Trat province, from where you can catch a combined minivan and ferry to Koh Chang. The entire journey takes around 6–7 hours.
  • By Private Car:
    You can hire a taxi or rent a car for a more comfortable and flexible journey. The drive from Bangkok to Trat is approximately 350 kilometres and takes about 4–5 hours. From Trat, a short ferry ride (around 30 minutes) will take you to Koh Chang.
  • By Air:
    Though there are no direct commercial flights to Koh Chang, you can fly from Bangkok to Trat Airport, which is about 17 km from the island. Airlines like Bangkok Airways operate daily flights, and from Trat Airport, a taxi or hotel transfer can be arranged for the short drive to the ferry terminal.
