Samui Elephant Sanctuary was the first Sanctuary to be opened in Koh Samui. Since the Samui Elephant Sanctuary opened popularity and expansion have been a rapid growth allowing them to rescue more elephants for the Samui Elephant Sanctuary.
Samui Elephant Sanctuary’s growth has been possible because of charity funding from tourists and local companies donating funds and arranging charity days throughout Koh Samui.
Samui Elephant Sanctuary is situated in a natural environment in Chaweng and Bophut. The sanctuary includes a large swimming pool for the elephants to cool down and wash. There is a wet mud area for the elephants to cool down and play.
Samui Elephant Sanctuary offers a haven for the elephants to walk around freely, eat, cool down, and play. No Chains!
There are 6 elephants the youngest 49 years and the oldest 62 years old.
Each elephant has its working history, but they all were made to work for the tourism Industry for elephant riding, logging, and Circus until they were older, then shipped out for elephant trekking.
Now the elephants can find peace to live the rest of their life free!

To secure a booking, a 50% deposit is required and the balance is paid on the day in cash. Samui Explorer works as an agent for Samui Elephant Sanctuary therefore the pricing and programs are the same.
NB: We are an agent only for Samui Elephant Sanctuary, we do not take booking and send out customers to a different sanctuary.
The half day programs offer a memorable experience spending time with our beautiful herd in a natural setting. To be in the presence of elephants is breathtaking and we are sure that your day at Samui Elephant Sanctuary will leave you deeply moved.
- Hotel pick up – we pick up from all accommodation on Koh Samui. Please see below for pick up times.
- Welcome and introduction video on who we are and why elephants need to be protected.
Prepare food for the elephants and then meet and feed the elephants. This is a magical experience and the elephants of course love their basket of treats. - Walk with the elephants and observe them as they express their natural behaviours, such as foraging for food, bathing in the pool, and playing in the mud pit.
- Enjoy a delicious vegetarian Thai buffet with time to rest, relax and take in the tranquility of our sanctuary.
- Complimentary filtered water, coffee and tea.
- Transfer back to your hotel.
